About The Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon National Park encompasses 277 miles (446 km) of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. The park is home to much of the immense Grand Canyon; a mile (1.6 km) deep, and up to 18 miles (29 km) wide. Layered bands of colorful rock reveal millions of years of geologic history. Grand Canyon is unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers visitors from the rim.

The Grand Canyon is on almost every traveler's bucket list, it is the one great sight which every American should see. While it is not the deepest canyon in the world, it is unmatched throughout the world for the vistas it offers to visitors.

Over More than 4.3 million visitors see the canyon each year. Most visitors (90%) see the park from free shuttle buses or from their car at overlooks along the South Rim. The South Rim includes the historic Grand Canyon Village, the El Tovar Hotel, Verkamp's Visitor Center, The Mule Ride to Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon, Hermit Road, and Desert View Drive. The South Rim is open all year.

Grand Canyon National Park is the United States' 15th oldest national park. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the park is located in Arizona. The park's central feature is the Grand Canyon, a gorge of the Colorado River, which is often considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

The weather varies quite a bit depending on where you are. While people are enjoying the summer in central Arizona by sunbathing or splashing around in everything from lakes to pools, folks in northern Arizona enjoy outdoor life with cooler temps and crisper nights.
